Sheffield filmfest to receive ‘Faces without Visage’

Iran short ‘Faces without Visage’ is to take part in Sheffield Short Filmfest in the UK.

Iranian short documentary film ‘Faces without Visage’ has been selected to take part in the Sheffield Short Film Festival in the UK.

Hessam Rahmani’s 8-minute short doc will be among the 8 titles to compete at the Child’s Eye section of the English film event’s second edition.

‘Faces without Visage’ is a poetic and artistic attempt to show the bitterness of dementia, a disease which is fast spreading around the world as the countries’ populations grow older.

The film opens with a picture frame of the time the narrator of the story was not born yet. The woman in the shot is not smiling and the man seems unhappy about it.

Later the birth of the narrator brings a nice smile on her lips but little by little the man seems to lose it to the disease and forget everything that once meant a lot to him, including his wife’s smile.

The flick has already been screened at a number of film events, including the Photometria International Photography Festival in Italy and the London Short Film Festival in the UK.

According to the official website of the event, the Sheffield Short Film Festival aims, “to celebrate new and established filmmakers from around the globe and share … the magic of cinematic storytelling through the time-honoured format of Short Film”.

This year’s edition of the fest, which was originally set for May 1-3, was postponed for October 30- November 1, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also forced the fest to be online.
